Sexual Harassment Poster

Since October 2024, every employer in the UK has been under a specific legal duty to take reasonable steps to prevent sexual harassment of their workers. From October 2026, that duty has been strengthened — employers must now take all reasonable steps. The bar has moved from "reasonable" to "all reasonable". That is a meaningful change, and one your salon has to be able to demonstrate.

For salons, spas and clinics, this duty is not abstract. It covers harassment by colleagues, by managers, and — importantly for the salon sector — by clients and other third parties. A stylist made uncomfortable by a regular client. A therapist subjected to inappropriate comments during a treatment. A receptionist dealing with unwanted attention at the front desk. All of these engage the duty, and all are the Salon's responsibility to prevent, not just to handle after the event.

A written policy on its own is not enough. Tribunals will look at whether staff have been trained, whether risks have been assessed, whether reporting routes work in practice, and whether the Salon has done anything visible to make clear — to team and clients alike — that harassment will not be tolerated. Displaying a poster in your salon is one of the simplest, most visible reasonable steps you can take.

Why the poster matters:

  • It signals to your team, every day, that this is a place where sexual harassment will not be tolerated, and where they will be supported if it happens.
  • It signals to clients that the salon has clear standards of behaviour — and reduces the likelihood of harassment happening in the first place.
  • It forms part of the visible, documented evidence you can point to if the Equality and Human Rights Commission or a tribunal ever asks what reasonable steps you have taken.

Display it somewhere your team see it every day, and somewhere clients will see it too — the reception area and staff room are the two most obvious places. Refresh it if it becomes faded or damaged. Alongside your policy, your training and your risk assessment, it is one of the four visible things every salon should have in place.
